Romania was among the last countries in European Union for the expenditure allocated from the national GDP for social protection related to housing.

Romania spent less than 0.1% of its GDP, similar to other countries such as Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Cyprus or Slovakia.

Great Britain ranked first, with 1.3% of its GDP spent on social protection related to housing, according to EU’s statistical office Eurostat.

The EU member states allocated almost €81 billion on social protection for housing in 2015, or 0.5% of EU’s GDP.
