Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV), Greece's largest employers' union, said it was opposed to any plans to restore labour regulations to their pre-crisis form and that such a move would not lead the country out of the recession.

In its weekly bulletin on economic developments, released on Thursday, SEV said such a return would make it harder to achieve international competitiveness, pushing back foreign investments with adverse consequences for the future of our economy.

SEV analysts said that workers in the private sector participating in trade unions totaled 10-20 pct of all workers, while 40-50 pct of private enterprises were members of employers' unions and stressed that Greece ranked five places above the worst country in the EU (Italy) and three places above the second worst country (France) in the quality of labour relations.

The Federation supported a balanced approach between centralised negotiating procedures and fully decentralised procedures and noted that the pension problem remained unresolved, undermining workers' available income and overburdening labour costs in the country.
