Employment and working indexes improves in the 2Q2017



The employment, working hours and wage indexes in the majority of economic sectors grew in the second quarter of 2017, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Monday.


Employment in the mining/quarry sector fell 0.3 pct, while working hours and wages grew 3.7 pct and 18.1 pct, respectively, the statistics service said. In the manufacturing sector, employment grew 2.4 pct, working hours rose 4.3 pct and wages rose 5.1 pct. In the electricity/natural gas sector, employment rose 1.8 pct, working hours increased 6.3 pct and wages fell 10.4 pct.

In the water/waste sector, employment fell 3.3 pct, while working hours grew 16.7 pct and wages rose 22.6 pct. In the construction sector, employment, working hours and wages grew 4.2 pct, 15.5 pct and 7.2 pct, respectively.

In the transport/logistics sector, all three indexes grew 2.4 pct, 5.8 pct and 0.7 pct, respectively, in the hotel/restaurant services, all three indexes grew 6.4 pct, 15.7 pct and 26.1 pct and in the media/communication sector employment grew 9.4 pct, working hours rose 7.3 pct and wages rose 12.9 pct.
