Sklavenitis Supermarkets SA on Friday said its strategic plan, currently underway, is helping the company move forward and strengthening its position and competitiveness following a merger between I&S Sklavenitis with Sklavenitis Supermarkets SA early this year.

The strategic plan envisages a restructuring of its supermarket network, introducing a new common payroll system based on fairer and balanced payment framework and implementing an investment plan aimed to further enhance its supermarket network.

Sklavenitis has already begun a restructuring of its network around the country with the aim of terminating the operation of 40 stores to bring its network down to 410 stores in total by the end of 2018 (including 22 stores ordered to be shut down by competition authorities).

The company said this plan will not have any impact on job positions as all workers will be absorbed by the company. Sklavenitis currently has a workforce of 21,000 workers.

The company and workers' union signed a new business collective labour contract. Sklavenitis fully renovated 120 of its supermarket stores in 2017 and hired 1,700 workers around the country. Its investment plan envisages the full renovation of 100 stores this year.
