Cyprus' Exclusion Committee has banned Helector Cyprus, owned by Greece's Ellaktor group, from taking part in public contracts for five years.

The Cypriot company had participated in the Pafos landfill, details of which had been made public by mayor Fedonas Fedonos.

According to a 41 page report prepared by the Exclusion Committee, the decision was made after the company "did not present the necessary information that had been asked for, in order to boost its credibility."

The five-year ban starts from March 2016. The mayor of Pafos, according to the Cyprus News Agency, said that the decision justifies him after he publicly reported the details of the landfill deal involving Helector Cyprus.

Even though his revelations concerned all of the companies in the group, said Fedonos, the committee examined for now the case of Helector Cyprus.
