The European Central Bank should take over Greece's debt and buy dividends and titles, along with a moratorium on Greece's payments in order to restore liquidity and allow the economy to recover, the leader of "France Insoumise" Jean-Luc Melenchon proposed in an exclusive interview broadcast by the Athens Macedonian News Agency (ANA) web television channel.

In his interview to ANA and Giorgos Kouvaras, Melenchon noted that Britain's withdrawal will leave vacant seats in the European Parliament, presenting this as an opportunity to fill these with MEPs from a supranational lists of candidates.

This was part of the reason for his visit to Athens at the invitation of Zoi Konstantopoulou (former parliament president and leader of Plefsi Eleftherias), he revealed, while he also met the leader of Laiki Enotita (LAE) Panagiotis Lafazanis.

Melenchon said that there was no longer any room for cooperation with SYRIZA in these ballots.

He repeated his disagreement with the actions taken by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and said that, had he been in Tsipras' position in 2015 negotiations, he "would brought to the table the prospect that France pay 45 billion euros and Germany 56 billion euros in case Greece defaulted, something that would have been a very strong means of pressure. I am sorry Tsipras did not do it," said Melenchon.
