Lowering the tax and social insurance burden and resolving the private debt problem is necessary, Constantinos Michalos, president of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) said.

Addressing a seminar on "Free Professionals in the Electronic Platform of Out-of-Court Debt Settlement Mechanism", Michalos said Greece needed a modern, efficient framework on debt settlement and managing the problem of private debt.

"I believe we are moving in the right direction," he noted, adding that the country mostly needed a sustainable tax environment with fewer taxes and more incentives for enterprises, not only to help them stay afloat but also to recover and be able to make investments that boost their competitiveness.

"We want an environment with lower social insurance contributions, to boost growth, employment and the social insurance funds' revenue. So that thousands of capable experts and professionals are able to stay in the country and support its recovery," Michalos said.

Fotis Kourmousis, special secretary of Private Debt Management, presented the institutional framework for the operation of the e-platform of an out-of-court debt settlement mechanism, emphasising its ability and the preliminary requirements for the inclusion of freelance professionals.
