Greece's unemployment rate eased to 20.9 pct of the workforce in November 2017 from 23.3 pct in November 2016, but it was unchanged from October 2017, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Thursday.

 

The statistics service, in a monthly report, said that the number of unemployed people totaled 995,899 in November, down 119,363 from November 2016 (-10.7 pct) and down 103 compared with October 2017.

The number of employed people totaled 3,761,452, up 94,071 compared with November 2016 (up 2.6 pct) but down 9,659 compared with October 2017 (a decline of 0.3 pct).

The unemployment rate among women was 25.8 pct in Novermber (27.8 pct in November 2016), significantly higher compared with men (17.1 pct and 19.7 pct respectively).

The 15-24 age group recorded the highest unemployment rate (43.7 pct in November from 46.1 pct in November 2016), followed by the 25-34 age group (26.2 pct from 29.5 pct), the 35-44 age group (18.6 pct from 19.9 pct), the 45-54 age group (16.6 pct from 18.8 pct), the 55-64 age group (17.3 pct from 19.7 pct) and the 65-74 age group (11.6 pct from 12.8 pct).

Among the country's regions, Epirus-Western Macedonia (26 pct in November 2017 from 27.7 pct in November 2016) recorded the highest unemployment rate, followed by Peloponnese-Western Greece-Ionian Islands (22.1 pct from 23.7 pct), Attica (21.2 pct from 22.8 pct), Aegean (21.1 pct from 16.5 pct), Macedonia-Thrace (21 pct from 24.1 pct), Thessaly-Central Greece (19.2 pct from 23.9 pct) and Crete (17.1 pct from 20 pct).
