Greek annual inflation rate at 0,9% in August



The Greek annual inflation rate was 0.9 pct in August, from -0.9 pct in August 2016, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Friday.


The statistics service, in a monthly report, said that the consumer price index fell 0.4 pct in August from July 2017, after a 0.3 pct decline recorded in the corresponding period last year.

The statistics service attributed the 0.9 pct increase in the consumer price index to: increases of 7.4 pct in alcohol/tobacco, 2.3 pct in housing, 6.6 pct in transport, 1.3 pct in communications and 1.8 pct in hotel/coffee/restaurants.

On the other hand, prices fell by 1.1 pct in food/beverages, 1.3 pct in clothing/footwear, 3.3 pct in durable goods, 2.4 pct in health, 1.5 pct in entertainment, 0.3 pct in education, 2.5 pct in other goods and services.

Greece's harmonised inflation rate grew 0.6 pct in August after a 0.4 pct increase recorded in August 2016. On a monthly basis, the harmonised inflation rate fell 0.3 pct in August from July.
