Greek authorities launches infrastructure tech-upgrade project

Greek Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Information Minister Nikos Pappas approved a project called "SYZEFXIS II" aims at technologically upgrading infrastructure of the Greek public sector and to offer Internet services safeguarding faster broadband connection, along with faster interconnection of public services at a lower cost and better services to citizens.


Implementation of the project will begin in the second half of 2018 and it will be completed in three years, co-funded by national and EU funds.

The project will offer broadband coverage to around 34,000 public buildings, including schools, broadband connections to 375 wireless public hotspots, high connection speeds up to 1 Gbps, secure use of video, teleconference and mobile technologies, new telematic services, full exploitation of 68 Metropolitan Fiber Optics Broadband Networks and drastic reduction of annual telecommunications spending by up to 100 million euros.
