E-commerce turnover is steadily growing in Greece, totaling 4.5 billion euros in 2016, from 3.8 billion in 2015,

confirming an increasing confidence among Greek consumers in electronic purchases and a rising rate of e-commerce contracts among retail commerce enterprises, the general secretariat of Commerce and Consumer Protection said in a report presented in Parliament.

The report said that the government was drafting a new legislation aiming to safeguard consumers' rights and economic interests.

The draft law will simplify, rationalize and unify an existing legislation on consumer protection and aims to better support e-commerce providers, reduce costs and safeguard equal terms of competition with foreign providers.

The report also said that Greece participated in a sweep program to control websites of selling digital goods and services in accordance with an EU directive on consumer protection.

A total 19 websites were inspected and 10 Greek companies were found lacking offering full information to consumers.
