Peloponnese interconnection with the Ultra High Voltage System in operation

  • RE+D Magazine

This project marks a new era for the National Electricity Transmission System (NETS) and the interconnection of the Peloponnese as the region is interconnected for the first time in the Ultra High Voltage System (400 kV), ensuring the energy security of the Peloponnese and the decongestion of saturated networks of the area.

The “Western Corridor” project consists of overhead and underground Transmission Lines and the 400kV Ultra High Voltage submarine cable installed between Rio and Antirio. Until now, the system of the Peloponnese operated at High Voltage (150 kV), with therefore reduced transmission capacity and being an exception compared to the rest of the mainland.

This is an emblematic project, of international scope, which is a pivotal point for the extension of the transmission lines of the 400kV system, as in addition to utilizing the energy production potential of the region, it significantly accelerates the power transmission capacity to and from the Peloponnese, and upgrades the operation and security of the Southern System.
