Kalamata Airport concession enters final parliamentary approval stage

The concession agreement, signed on 22 June 2026, marks the transition of the airport to a new development model, with the objective of transforming it into an international aviation gateway for the southwestern Peloponnese. The concession grants the right to manage, operate, develop, expand, maintain, and commercially exploit the airport for a period of 40 years, while the total duration of the agreement amounts to 42 years.

The concessionaire is “Kalamata Airport S.A.”, whose shareholders are Germany’s Fraport AG, Delta Airport Investments of the Copelouzos Group, and Pyleas Participations, owned by the Konstantakopoulos family. The consortium combines Fraport’s international airport management expertise with the strong local presence of its Greek partners, creating the conditions for an investment expected to transform the air transport landscape in the Peloponnese.

The concession fee amounts to approximately €45 million, while the total investment programme is estimated at €125 million. During the initial years of the concession, extensive infrastructure upgrades are planned, with a focus on the construction of a new passenger terminal, the modernisation of existing facilities, the improvement of passenger service areas, and the expansion of the airport’s operational capacity.

The airport currently serves approximately 380,000 passengers annually, with the concessionaire’s development plan targeting an almost doubling of passenger traffic by 2030, driven by the expansion of direct international connections and the growing appeal of the destination.
