The investment plan of the real estate and infrastructure investment manager builds on the expansion of its existing UK operations and its relationships with institutional investors. The initiative was announced following a meeting between PATRIZIA CEO Asoka Wöhrmann and Manchester Mayor and Prime Minister Andy Burnham at the British Embassy in Berlin.
Partnerships with Regional Authorities and Institutional Investors
PATRIZIA plans to expand its presence in cities and regions across the UK with strong development potential, working alongside metro mayors, regional authorities and local stakeholders. The aim is to identify investment opportunities that address the specific housing needs of each area.
A central element of the strategy is to connect housing projects prioritised by local authorities with long-term investment capital, potentially including funds from UK pension schemes.
Local authorities will be able to set housing policy priorities and direct funding towards identified needs, while pension funds participating in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) and their investment platforms will assess opportunities to participate in suitable projects, in line with their own investment strategies and due diligence processes.
“The UK housing challenge also represents a significant investment opportunity,” said PATRIZIA CEO Asoka Wöhrmann, emphasising that public-private partnerships can accelerate housing delivery and create long-term value for local communities.
Investment Footprint in London and the Regions
The new initiative builds on PATRIZIA’s established presence in the UK housing market. In London, the company has more than £100 million in investment capacity for the development of alternative residential formats and affordable housing, through a joint venture with a local developer.
The joint venture’s first project, Walworth Corners in the Elephant and Castle area, has secured construction financing and appointed a contractor. The development will deliver new homes and student accommodation on a former industrial site, alongside community facilities and public spaces.
PATRIZIA has also invested in residential projects in Cardiff, Birmingham, Reading and Southampton.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan welcomed the company’s intention to strengthen its presence in the capital, noting that collaboration between international investors and public authorities could help increase the supply of new homes, including affordable housing.
Similarly, mayors from the Liverpool City Region, the West Midlands and West Yorkshire have expressed their willingness to work with PATRIZIA, highlighting the potential to unlock available land, accelerate construction and address local housing needs.
European Affordable Housing Portfolio
The UK investment initiative forms part of PATRIZIA’s broader residential investment activities across Europe. Through its social impact investment strategy, the company has delivered 929 homes to housing organisations in Ireland.
In Spain, the first affordable rental homes have been completed under a programme targeting the development of 960 homes in total.
According to second-quarter 2026 figures, PATRIZIA had committed €324 million in equity to 18 affordable housing projects across Spain, Ireland, the UK and Belgium.
These investments form part of the company’s European residential platform, which has €17.5 billion in assets under management.
