AADE digitizes seizure release to cut bureaucracy

  • RE+D Magazine

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) is changing the procedure for lifting seizures on tax debts.

Specifically, as stated in a related announcement, starting Wednesday, April 1, 2026, the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) will digitize the procedure for lifting seizures in the hands of third parties, reducing bureaucracy and further strengthening the protection of taxpayers’ rights.

By decision of the Commissioner, Giorgos Pitsilis (A.1077/2026), a new digital framework is being established for the immediate lifting of seizures held by credit institutions and other obligated parties (Article 62, Law 4170/2013), for the benefit of taxpayers.

Under the new digital procedure:

– The lifting of seizures in the hands of third parties will now be communicated digitally. Once the taxpayer settles their debt and submits a corresponding request to the authority that issued the seizure, the competent authority will issue the release and send it digitally to the credit institutions and other obligated parties.

– The lifting is completed immediately, without any further action required from the taxpayer.

– Notifications of seizures in the hands of third parties to credit institutions and other obligated parties, as well as the releases, are carried out through a secure connection (AADE hub) with the intermediary hubs “TEIRESIAS S.A.” and “DIAS S.A.”.

– AADE’s customs services are fully integrated into the new digital flow, unifying collection procedures for all types of public revenue.
