Bucharest positioned as a key luxury retail hub in CEE

Bucharest is emerging as one of the most dynamic destinations for the luxury goods market in Central and Eastern Europe, according to a new analysis by Cushman & Wakefield Echinox.

As noted by the real estate consultancy Cushman & Wakefield Echinox, the Romanian capital is steadily strengthening its position on the luxury retail map, supported by rising consumer purchasing power, increased tourism flows, and the further consolidation of prime high-visibility retail locations and premium destinations.

The analysis highlights that the luxury brands market in Bucharest has recorded significant growth in recent years, with annual sales now approaching €150 million—more than double the level recorded in 2019.

A key driver of this expansion is the city’s premium retail districts, led by Calea Victoriei, which has emerged as Romania’s leading luxury high street, attracting international fashion houses, upscale hotels, and premium dining concepts.

According to the consultancy, the limited availability of prime retail space in top-tier locations is exerting further upward pressure on rents, while also boosting investment interest from international luxury brands seeking a physical presence in the market.

This trend forms part of a broader European landscape in which, despite more moderate growth in luxury retail sales, global brands continue to invest in flagship stores and strategically prominent locations.
