Greece’s unemployment rate at 9.5% in April 2026

Unemployment in the country stood at 9.5% in April this year, compared with a revised upward 9% in April 2025 and a revised upward 10.4% in March 2026, according to ELSTAT.
The number of unemployed persons amounted to 452,305, an increase of 26,607 people compared with April 2025 (6.3%) and a decrease of 49,471 people compared with March 2026 (9.9%).
By gender, the unemployment rate stood at 13.7% for women, up from 11% in April last year, and at 5.9% for men, down from 7.3%.
By broad age groups, unemployment in the 15–24 age group stood at 18.4%, down from 19.1% in April 2025, while for ages 25–74 it stood at 9%, up from 8.4%.
According to the Labour Force Survey by ELSTAT, the number of employed persons reached 4,318,719, recording a decrease of 3,592 people compared with April 2025 (0.1%) and a decrease of 9,887 people compared with March 2026 (0.2%).
The number of people under 75 who are outside the labour force (those neither working nor seeking employment) amounted to 2,949,960, down by 57,141 people compared with April 2025 (1.9%) and up by 52,020 people compared with March 2026 (1.8%).
