Construction sector at a turning point, says TMEDE

The 80th Ordinary Congress of PESEDE (Panhellenic Association of Public Works Contractors’ Unions) was successfully held on 27, 28, and 29 March at the premises of TMEDE (Fund of Engineers and Public Works Contractors), once again confirming the consistent and substantive cooperation between the two organizations.

Under the title “Sustainable Infrastructure: Challenges and Objectives,” the conference agenda clearly highlighted the crossroads at which the construction sector currently stands, in a period marked by heightened demands and continuous change.

In this context, the President of TMEDE, Konstantinos Makedos, delivered an address, focusing on the importance of infrastructure resilience, as well as the decisive role of contracting companies, which shape the conditions for growth and contribute to a sustainable society.

As he noted, “the contracting sector, as a carrier of expertise, productivity, and responsibility, constitutes the link in the chain that connects financing, design, and the implementation of infrastructure projects, with a direct impact on the economy and the daily lives of citizens, within an environment of increased costs, uncertainty, and intense international pressures.

For this reason, the discussion on sustainable infrastructure cannot concern only the projects themselves, but also the sustainability of the companies that implement them.

In this direction, TMEDE actively supports the technical sector through:

  • The EAT–TMEDE Guarantee Fund: providing working capital of up to €400,000, with guarantees of up to 80%, through eight partner banks
  • TMEDE Microfinance Solutions: offering microfinancing of up to €25,000, without collateral, for professionals and very small enterprises
  • Letters of guarantee and factoring of approved receivables to ensure uninterrupted liquidity

The transition to sustainable and resilient infrastructure presupposes a healthy and robust construction sector and requires cooperation, stable rules, and a joint effort by all stakeholders: the State, institutions, and businesses. As TMEDE, we are committed to continuing to stand alongside PESEDE and the entire technical community, with consistency, responsibility, and strategic planning.”
