Hellenic Train has announced the successful completion of all required testing for the certification of its new Coradia Stream trainsets on the Greek railway network.

Specifically, according to an announcement by Hellenic Train, the testing programme included:

  • Certification tests of the energy subsystem at speeds of up to 160 km/h, conducted on the Platy–Katerini and Lianokladi–Tithorea sections between 12 March and 24 April 2026.
  • Compatibility tests with the Greek railway network on the Piraeus–Airport, Piraeus–Kiato, Athens–Chalcis, Athens–Lianokladi, and Larissa–Thessaloniki routes, carried out from 5 to 9 May 2026.
  • Verification of the operation of the ETCS (European Train Control System) and GSM-R (Global System for Mobile Communications – Railway) safety and communications systems between 9 and 12 June 2026.

During the testing programme, which was completed in cooperation with Alstom, the Hellenic Railways Infrastructure Manager (OSE), and the relevant authorities, an extensive programme of measurements and inspections was carried out by independent assessment bodies and a specialised laboratory. The objective was to confirm the full compliance of the trainsets with the safety and interoperability requirements of the Greek railway network.

The next phase involves the completion and evaluation of the technical reports generated from the tests. This process is expected to be finalised in the coming weeks and will form the basis for the submission of the approval dossier to the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA), with a view to obtaining the required authorisation for the deployment of the new Coradia Stream trainsets on the Greek railway network.

“Hellenic Train continues to consistently implement its fleet renewal programme, with the aim of providing modern, safe, and reliable rail services to passengers,” the company stated in its announcement.
