35-Year Concession for Chania–Heraklion–Kissamos section of Northern Crete Road Axis enters into force
According to the company, the agreement covers the design, construction, financing, operation, maintenance, and exploitation of the specific section of VOAK, with a total length of 187 kilometers. The project’s budget amounts to €2 billion, while the concession period extends over 35 years, the first five of which pertain to the design and construction phase.
The company reports that the initiation of preliminary works in recent months has already contributed to reducing traffic accidents along the road axis, enhancing road safety on one of the country’s most heavily trafficked road networks.
The Northern Crete Road Axis (VOAK) is a project of strategic importance for both the island and the country, with a total length of approximately 300 kilometers. In addition to the Chania–Heraklion–Kissamos section, it includes the under-construction sections “Hersonissos–Agios Nikolaos” and “Agios Nikolaos–Neapoli,” making it the largest highway currently under construction in Europe.
