Specifically, the General Turnover Index in June 2026 increased by 4.2% year-on-year compared with June 2025. On a monthly basis, the index rose by 1.4% compared with May 2026.
The picture was similar, although more subdued, in terms of real consumption. The General Volume Index — measuring turnover at constant prices — increased by 1.9% compared with June 2025, while it also rose by 1.4% compared with May 2026.
However, after adjusting for seasonal effects, the picture changes. The seasonally adjusted General Turnover Index fell by 2.1% in June compared with May 2026. Similarly, the seasonally adjusted General Volume Index declined by 1.4% month-on-month.
The Market Picture
The figures show that the retail market remains on positive ground year-on-year, with nominal turnover rising by 4.2% and sales volume increasing by 1.9%. At the same time, the stronger increase in turnover compared with sales volume suggests that part of the growth in retail sales is attributable to price increases.
On a monthly basis, however, the initial 1.4% increase is reversed once the figures are adjusted for seasonality, with both turnover and sales volume recording declines.
Overall, the June data indicate that retail continues to maintain positive year-on-year growth, but the underlying momentum appears more subdued once seasonal effects are stripped out.
