According to the announcement, the program offers:
- A 12-month paid internship in the modern Metals Business Unit of Metlen Energy & Metals
- Eligibility for young engineers with up to two years of professional experience
- Participation in real industrial projects of international scope
- More than 260 graduates have participated since 2014
Applications for the program are open until April 6, 2026.
For the second consecutive year, as noted in the announcement, Metlen Energy & Metals is implementing the “Engineers in Practice – Metals Sector” program, a targeted 12-month paid internship designed for young engineers who wish to take their first professional steps in the modern, technologically advanced and internationally oriented metals industry.
The program is part of the broader “Engineers in Practice” initiative, which was launched in Greece in February 2014 and has now completed nine successful cycles. More than 260 young engineers have participated in the wider program to date, with the majority of participants entering the labor market within less than three months after completing the program, while 125 of them are currently employed at METLEN.
The “Engineers in Practice – Metals Sector” program reflects the new reality of the metals industry, where digital transformation and advanced production technologies are redefining the role of the modern engineer.
Participants are integrated into METLEN’s industrial operations in Boeotia, Phocis and Oinofyta, gaining direct exposure to a demanding yet supportive environment where technical expertise meets real-world practice.
Through their participation, young engineers take part in real international-scale projects, where they are called upon to address complex technical and organizational challenges, developing critical skills and gaining a deeper understanding of the modern industrial and energy ecosystem. Notably, participant satisfaction within the broader program consistently exceeds 90%.
The Metals Business Unit of METLEN operates the only fully vertically integrated production facility in Europe for bauxite, alumina and primary aluminum, with privately owned port facilities. The historic Aluminium of Greece plant is today the largest vertically integrated producer of alumina and aluminum in the European Union and one of the most dynamically growing industrial organizations in Greece.
At the same time, METLEN is developing new production activity in the field of gallium, a critical material for advanced technologies and Europe’s industrial autonomy, leveraging its long-standing metallurgical expertise and access to raw materials.
As stated in the announcement:
“If you would like to take the next step in your professional career in industry and meet the following requirements, you can become an Engineer in Practice in the Metals Sector of METLEN.”
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Strong academic background in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or Mining/Metallurgical Engineering)
- Ability to relocate to regions where METLEN’s Metals Business Unit operates: Boeotia, Phocis and Oinofyta
- Completion of military service, for male candidates
- Recent graduates with up to two years of professional experience
- Excellent command of both Greek and English
