British inflation rate fell to 7.9% in June

That was also well below a consensus estimate among economists polled by Reuters of 8.2%. 

Other areas of small comfort for the central bank came in cooler-than-expected figures for core inflation, at 6.9%, and services inflation, at 7.2%.

The British pound  was 0.7% lower against the U.S. dollar  and 0.7% lower against the euro following the news; while the FTSE 100 index was 1.2% higher.
