His leadership, renewed for a second two-year term, comes at a crucial moment for the European metals sector, confronting both unprecedented challenges and significant opportunities.

During his first term, Mr. Mytilineos oversaw Eurometaux’s active participation in shaping the Critical Raw Materials Act, an effort that underscored the vital role of metals in Europe’s strategic autonomy. Moving forward, the association will prioritize the implementation of this Act, ensuring Europe’s metals industry can meet the growing demand for raw materials essential to clean energy technologies.

Over the next two years, the association prioritized working with policymakers in both Brussels and in the Member States to design and implement the upcoming Clean Industrial Deal. A key priority will be to support the implementation of the Critical Raw Materials Act in order to ensure that the targets foreseen therein are met.

First and foremost, this means securing a globally competitive supply of energy for our industry, and Eurometaux is already engaging with policymakers with concrete proposals that would achieve this. Other top priorities include the reform of Europe’s chemicals legislation (REACH), the EU’s Emissions Trading System and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, the implementation of the EU’s new due diligence policies, and the sustainable products framework.
