The project involves the aesthetic and functional upgrade of the central axis from Nikis Avenue to Egnatia Street, aiming to preserve the area’s monumental character while integrating modern bioclimatic and environmental solutions. Simultaneously, interventions are planned to enhance accessibility, material durability, and the overall quality of the public space.
According to the municipality, securing the funding was completed within 26 months with the support of the Region of Central Macedonia, creating the conditions for the launch of the city center’s third major redevelopment, following the interventions at Agia Sofia and the upcoming redevelopment of Eleftherias Square with the creation of a Memory Park.
The redevelopment of Aristotelous Square is a pivotal project for the city’s economic and tourism upgrade, as it concerns Thessaloniki’s most recognizable public space, directly impacting commercial activity, property values, and the attractiveness of the urban center.
The municipality’s program also includes other significant interventions, such as the wooden deck at the New Waterfront, the redevelopment of Dimokratias Square, and the restoration of Dikaiotikiriou Square, forming a broader network of urban redevelopment projects with a notable developmental footprint.
The announcement of the tender is considered a critical milestone, as it paves the way for the construction phase of a project with high symbolic value and significant economic implications for the local market. Competitive interest is expected from both domestic and international construction groups.
