GEK TERNA is recording a significant increase in its order backlog, as its subsidiary TERNA has been officially awarded two major railway projects by the Romanian National Railway Company (CFR), with a total budget of approximately €1 billion.

The construction arm of the GEK TERNA Group, in a joint venture with Alstom Romania, has been confirmed as the winning bidder for two sections of the Craiova–Drobeta Turnu Severin–Caransebeș railway line. The projects include:

  • Craiova–Filiași (Lot 1) with a budget of €543.4 million
  • Filiași–Igiroasa (Lot 2) with a budget of €449.2 million

Together, the two sections cover a total length of 83 kilometers of the Craiova–Igiroasa line, for which TERNA will undertake the design and full rehabilitation of the railway infrastructure.

Within the joint venture, TERNA acts as the lead partner, holding a 69% stake in Lot 1 and 74% in Lot 2. The study and design phase is expected to last 12 months, followed by a 36-month construction period.

The TERNA–Alstom Romania consortium had been named the provisional winner for both projects in the summer of 2025. The current confirmation finalizes the award and underscores the GEK TERNA Group’s growing presence in the Romanian infrastructure market.
