Accommodations take the lead over food services in Q3 2025

  • RE+D Magazine

The food service sector emerged as the biggest loser, recording a slight decline of 1.7%, with turnover reaching approximately €4 billion, indicating a shift in consumer and visitor behavior.

The areas generating the highest turnover in accommodations were Rhodes, Heraklion, Corfu, Chania, and Kos, which are traditionally top tourist destinations. In contrast, regions such as Grevena, Florina, Evrytania, Arta, and Ithaca showed much lower performance, reflecting their limited reliance on mass tourism.

In the food service sector, Attica is by far the leader, generating over €1.2 billion in the third quarter alone, due to its large population, strong business activity, and steady domestic tourism. It is followed by Thessaloniki, Rhodes, Corfu, and Chania, which serve as dynamic visitor hubs. Conversely, Evrytania, Grevena, Ithaca, Ikaria, and Karpathos recorded the lowest turnover, reflecting the smaller size of their local markets.
