The government is moving to the next step in the utilization of Kalamata International Airport “Captain Vassilis Konstantakopoulos,” as the Council of Ministers has approved the concession agreement for the operation and development of the airport.

The agreement concerns a 40-year concession for the right to manage, operate, develop, expand, maintain, and commercially exploit the airport, and represents one of the most significant infrastructure utilization initiatives with a strong development and tourism footprint.

The tender had been launched by the Hellenic Corporation of Assets and Participations (Growthfund), with the preferred investor being the consortium FRAPORT AG – DELTA AIRPORT INVESTMENTS – PILEAS S.A. The consortium consists of 51% FRAPORT (Germany), 24.5% DELTA AIRPORT INVESTMENTS of the Copelouzos Group, and 24.5% PILEAS S.A. of the Konstantakopoulos Group.

€45.2 million financial consideration

The total financial consideration of the agreement amounts to €45.2 million in 2025 constant prices. Of this amount, €45 million will be paid upfront at the start of the concession period, reflecting strong investor confidence in the airport’s development prospects and the wider region.

In addition, the agreement foresees additional public revenues through fixed and variable payments over the coming years, as well as the participation of Growthfund in the concessionaire’s share capital with a 10% stake, to be transferred free of charge.

At the operational level, the consortium commits to investments of at least €28.3 million within the first three years of the concession. The investment plan includes modernization of existing infrastructure, expansion of the passenger terminal, development of new aircraft parking areas, installation of advanced IT systems, and the creation of retail and food and beverage facilities.

Kalamata Airport serves as the main air gateway to southern Peloponnese and is closely linked to the region’s dynamic tourism growth. The completion of the concession is considered a critical step for further enhancing connectivity and creating new investment and tourism opportunities in the wider area.
