GAIAOSE, a subsidiary of Greece’s Growthfund, is proceeding with the upgrade of five suburban railway stations in Attica, having launched an open tender for renovation and improvement works at the Ano Liosia, Metamorfosi, Iraklio, Kifisias, and Penteli stations.

The project, with a total budget of €353,037.14 plus VAT, is part of the broader effort to modernize the railway network carried out under the coordination of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, aiming to improve infrastructure functionality and the overall passenger travel experience.

According to GAIAOSE, the interventions concern both the aesthetic and functional upgrading of the stations and include waterproofing works on canopies and expansion joints, repair of damages and repainting, removal of graffiti and application of anti-graffiti protective coatings, replacement of worn steps, tiles, and seating, as well as improvements to lighting at entrances and platforms.

In addition, the repair or replacement of electronic information displays is planned, with the aim of improving passenger information and enhancing the overall usability of the stations.

GAIAOSE, as the manager of railway real estate assets, seeks through this project to enhance the value and functionality of the infrastructure under its responsibility, while preserving its railway character and public role.

These interventions are part of a broader programme to upgrade the country’s railway facilities, aiming to create a safer, more functional, and higher-quality travel environment for citizens, while also strengthening the attractiveness of rail transport as a modern means of mobility.

Commenting on the project, GAIAOSE CEO Panagiotis Balo̱menos emphasized that infrastructure upgrades only acquire real meaning when they translate into tangible improvements for passengers, while also underlining the importance of cooperation among all railway stakeholders in creating better and safer travel conditions.

As he noted, the new culture of cooperation developing in the railway sector, under the coordination of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, contributes to the formation of a modern and reliable railway network worthy of citizens’ expectations and the needs of contemporary urban mobility.
