As stated in a relevant announcement, the lease agreement for the property, with a duration of thirty (30) years, signed by the Chief Executive Officer of HPPC, Ms. Iro Chatzigeorgiou, and the CEO of Domes Resorts, Dr. Georgios P. Spanos, marks the beginning of a significant investment that will lead to the full upgrade and reopening of the hotel complex, re-establishing one of the most emblematic landmarks in Greece’s tourism history.
The Xenia Ouranoupolis hotel was built in 1959, based on designs by the distinguished architect Periklis Sakellarios, and constitutes a representative example of the historic Xenia programme of the Greek National Tourism Organisation, which played a decisive role in shaping modern Greek tourism.
The property is located in a prime position at the gateway to Mount Athos, features an extensive beachfront, and is considered one of the most significant tourism assets in HPPC’s portfolio. The investment is expected to make a substantial contribution to the further development of the Ouranoupolis area and the wider region of Halkidiki, enhancing employment, local entrepreneurship, and the international attractiveness of the destination.
The Chief Executive Officer of HPPC, Iro Chatzigeorgiou, stated: “The long-term lease of Xenia Ouranoupolis represents another important step in HPPC’s effort to breathe new life into emblematic properties within its portfolio. The Xenia hotels are an integral part of the country’s modern tourism and architectural history, and their development is directly linked to the creation of new growth opportunities for local communities. Our goal is to transform properties with strong symbolic value and distinctive characteristics into modern hubs of development, investment, and high-quality hospitality, while preserving their historical and cultural identity.”
The redevelopment and utilisation of the historic Xenia properties included in HPPC’s portfolio constitutes a core pillar of the company’s strategy to activate assets of significant architectural and developmental value. Through targeted investments and partnerships with reliable investors and market stakeholders, HPPC seeks to restore emblematic properties to productive use, creating added value for the economy, local communities, and Greek tourism.
