BIG designs and completes Dymak headquarters in Denmark

The new complex, with a total area of 2,800 square meters, is set in a lush green location overlooking Lake Glisholm. It features a circular layout organized around an open central courtyard. The building accommodates office and exhibition spaces, while its distinctive roof visually references the Möbius strip, creating a unified, continuous form.

A central principle of the architectural concept is sustainability. The structural framework is made of mass timber, and natural materials such as clay, roof tiles, cork, and dried eelgrass were used in order to reduce the project’s embodied carbon footprint.

The undulating roof also functions as a photovoltaic system, being covered with 880 specially designed solar panels. Its geometry has been shaped to maximize energy production, reduce heat gain from solar radiation, and provide uninterrupted views of the adjacent forest and wetlands.

“The new Dymak offices represent an integrated low-carbon design approach, where mass timber, clay, and natural materials create a warm and organic working environment,” said BIG founder Bjarke Ingels, noting that the roof’s unusual form is not only an aesthetic choice but also a feature of high energy efficiency.

The building is surrounded by landscaped green areas and stone pathways leading to the main entrance. Inside, a double-height reception space opens onto a planted circular courtyard designed as a “green amphitheatre,” with stepped vegetation and seating that follow the building’s sloping form.

The ground floor houses a showroom, photography studio, and gym, while the upper floor contains open-plan workspaces, meeting rooms, and relaxation areas. The choice of materials—wood, clay, cork, eelgrass, and recycled paper fibers in the ceilings—also serves as a showcase of Dymak’s products, turning the building itself into a living exhibition of the company’s materials.

With this project, BIG seeks to demonstrate how contemporary corporate design can combine aesthetics, energy efficiency, and circular use of natural materials, creating a building that functions both as a workplace and as a showcase of sustainable architecture.
