One of the most significant milestones in Olympiacos’ modern history was marked by the official presentation of the plan for the new “Georgios Karaiskakis” Stadium, which aims to become one of the most modern football arenas in Europe.

The event was held at the Piraeus Municipal Theatre, where club president Evangelos Marinakis presented the vision for the new home of the “red-and-whites,” describing it as a project that will fundamentally transform both the club and the city of Piraeus.

A decisive factor in the project’s progress was the favourable opinion issued by the Piraeus Municipal Council regarding the request submitted by KARAISKAKI S.A. and Olympiacos F.C. for the modernisation, upgrade and expansion of the stadium. The decision followed the review of relevant correspondence from the company and the presentation of key technical guidelines by the appointed engineer of KARAISKAKI S.A., while the Mayor submitted a positive recommendation to the Municipal Council for approval of the proposed interventions.

As part of the opinion, an increase in the permitted building heights of the stadium was approved in order to enable the construction of the new facilities. Specifically, the maximum height of the western section of the building will reach 35 metres, the new stands will rise to between 37 and 45 metres depending on their location, and the new lightweight roof structure may reach up to 52 metres externally and 58 metres from pitch level.

According to the presented data, the new “G. Karaiskakis” Stadium will significantly increase its capacity, exceeding 53,000 seats. It will also feature state-of-the-art facilities for fans, athletes and visitors, new commercial and entertainment areas, modern hospitality suites, and architectural solutions designed to enhance safety, accessibility and the overall spectator experience. The project will be fully financed through private investment, with total costs estimated to exceed €250 million.

The reconstruction of the historic stadium forms part of Olympiacos’ strategic plan to develop infrastructure comparable to Europe’s leading clubs. The new “Georgios Karaiskakis” will serve not only as the home of the football team, but also as a multifunctional sports and cultural centre, aiming to become a new landmark for Piraeus and Greek sport.
