  • RE+D Magazine

The Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Sofia Zacharaki, in collaboration with Microsoft, signed a memorandum of understanding to implement the first structured and systematic incorporation of Artificial Intelligence in the educational system.

The memorandum initially provides for the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the Digital Tutoring Platform, through the creation of a free digital assistant for nationally examined foreign language subjects, including English, French, Italian, Spanish, and German.

The Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports will contribute by:

  • Providing educational materials and technical specifications.
  • Establishing a dedicated scientific and technical team to work closely with Microsoft’s corresponding team.

Microsoft will contribute its expertise to:

  • Explore and potentially pilot an AI solution to assist third-year high school students in preparing for specialized foreign language exams in the National Exams (Panhellenic).
  • Provide access to the international “AI for Educators” program, with Greek subtitles, to enhance teachers’ skills.
  • Share international best practices for using technology to support students, parents, and educators.
  • Establish a joint working group with the Ministry to monitor implementation.

Sofia Zacharaki, Minister of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports, stated:

“We are strengthening the Digital Tutoring Platform in collaboration with Microsoft, offering third-year high school students a free, safe AI-powered digital learning assistant for preparation in specialized foreign language subjects. This tool supports student learning and complements the work of teachers. Our goal is to expand opportunities for all children and promote equitable access to personalized learning, regardless of location or financial means. At the same time, we empower teachers with new tools and skills to creatively harness AI capabilities in the classroom. AI should not frighten us; it should motivate us to design the school of tomorrow—a school that combines technology with the human role of the teacher, broadens opportunities for every child, and goes beyond knowledge transmission to foster responsible, critical, and creative thinking.”

Gianna Andronopoulou, CEO of Microsoft Greece, Cyprus & Malta, commented:

“Artificial Intelligence can—and should—be a powerful, responsible ally in education. Through this collaboration with the Ministry of Education, we are taking a first step, initially focusing on how AI can practically support each student, regardless of location or socioeconomic background, providing personalized educational assistance as a complement to school learning. Our aim is for technology to have a tangible social impact: reducing inequalities, enhancing young people’s skills, and preparing the next generation for the future. At the same time, we are exploring how AI can also support every educator as a meaningful partner, enhancing teaching and creating new learning opportunities for all.”
