Student housing allowance applications close on 31 July

The deadline for the electronic submission of applications for the Student Housing Allowance for the 2025–2026 academic year expires on Friday, 31 July 2026.
The Ministry of Education reiterated the deadline earlier today, Wednesday, stressing that no new applications will be accepted after the closing date.
Applicants must visit the dedicated Student Housing Allowance online platform at https://stegastiko.minedu.gov.gr in order to submit their applications electronically. To access the platform, applicants must use the username and password issued by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) for the TAXISnet electronic services.
“The Student Housing Allowance is meaningful support, enabling every student to focus on their studies with greater security and fewer obstacles,” Minister of Education Sofia Zacharaki said, noting that funding for 2026 has increased to a total of €90 million. According to the minister, this represents a 115% increase compared with 2019.
“Supporting student welfare remains a consistent priority for us and tangible proof that we stand alongside families investing in their children’s future,” she added.
Deputy Minister of Education responsible for Higher Education, Nikos Papaioannou, stated: “Substantially reducing the financial burden associated with studying away from one’s place of residence remains a constant objective and a key pillar of our student welfare policy. […] With consistency and a clear plan, we continue to strengthen student support and create better conditions for young people who choose to pursue their studies away from home.”
More specifically, the total annual funding allocated for the Student Housing Allowance from 2019 to the present has been as follows:
- 2019: €41.758 million
- 2020: €51.013 million
- 2021: €39.654 million
- 2022: €72.4365 million
- 2023: €70.875 million
- 2024: €86.587 million
- 2025: €87.7585 million
- 2026: €90 million
Finally, the Ministry clarified that the final amount to be allocated for the Student Housing Allowance for the 2026 academic year will be determined based on the number of applications submitted and the final number of eligible beneficiaries.
