Tourism planning and strengthening the outward orientation of Ioannina were at the center of a meeting between Ioannina Mayor Thomas Begas and the new Board of Directors of the Ioannina Prefecture Hoteliers Association, in a discussion that confirmed a shared willingness for closer cooperation between local government and the business community.

The meeting took place at the Ioannina City Hall in a positive atmosphere, with the Hoteliers Association submitting a memorandum of proposals and positions to the municipal authority regarding the prospects for developing and upgrading the region’s tourism product.

Also participating in the discussion were Deputy Mayor for Tourism Christos Tatsis and the Mayor’s advisor on tourism issues Lina Siamopoulou, while matters of strategic planning and coordination of actions were examined, with the aim of further strengthening the destination’s competitiveness.

The Mayor of Ioannina emphasized that the Municipality seeks to act as a “political umbrella” for tourism, taking on a coordinating role in the design of policies and initiatives that will enhance the overall identity and dynamism of the region.

As he noted, tourism development cannot be confined to the administrative boundaries of a single municipality, but requires inter-municipal cooperation and coordination at the regional level, in order to more effectively highlight the comparative advantages of the wider area.

At the same time, he highlighted the importance of joint planning with industry professionals, stressing that cooperation between local government and tourism stakeholders is a prerequisite for producing measurable results.

For their part, members of the new Board of Directors of the Hoteliers Association expressed their intention to strengthen cooperation with the Municipality, aiming to further enhance outward orientation and create new development prospects for tourism in Ioannina.

The meeting comes at a time when local stakeholders are seeking new strategies to boost tourism activity, with an emphasis on networking, synergies, and the sustainable development of destinations.
