Greek unemployment rate reaches 13,3% in October 2021

The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) announced the seasonally adjusted estimates of employment and unemployment for October 2021.

It should be noted that in October, the labour market was affected by specific regulatory measures concerning the operation of businesses, as well as by measures taken to protect public health and tackle the COVID-19 pandemic throughout the whole Country. These measures affected, not only the normal functioning of the market, but also the data collection method of the survey.

According to ELSTAT's report, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in October 2021 amounted to 13.3% compared to 16.4% in October 2020 and to 13.0% in September 2021. 

The number of employed persons amounted to 4,027,050 persons increasing by 97,774 persons as compared with October 2020 (+2.5%) and decreasing by 47,982 persons compared with September 2021 (-1.2%). 

The number of unemployed persons amounted to 617,511 decreasing by 154,587 persons as compared with October 2020 (-20.0%) and increasing by 5,994 persons compared with September 2021 (+1.0%). 

The number of persons outside the labour force, i.e., persons that neither work nor look for a job, amounted to 3,208,499, increasing by 25,547 persons as compared with October 2020 (+0.8%) and by 39,166 persons compared with September 2021 (+1.2%).
