The transitional management will last up to 14 months and as soon as the integrated management will begin is expected to be the most modern waste management unit in the country and one of the most modern in Europe. Among the many advantages of the new unit is the fact that the Landfill (Landfill) is located close to the unit, which allows to minimize the transport of waste and residual.
The launch of the Transitional Waste Management, was made possible due to the recent signing of a Public-Private Partnership Agreement (PPP) amended for the Integrated Waste Management of Peloponnese Region, between the Peloponnese Region and the Peloponnese Environmental Company - a TERNA ENERGY subsidiary.
With the project in full operation, landfilling will be prevented and at least 65% of the biodegradable materials will be utilized, 50,000 tons of liquid waste will be diverted from the landfill, while green energy will be produced to serve the needs of 6,000 households, while avoiding release of 24,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Under the project, 800 jobs will be created during the construction period and 200 permanent jobs during the operating period (27 years). These do not include the indirect jobs that will be created (transport, marketing of recyclables, accommodation of staff, environmental school trips, etc.).
