Minister Kostas Karamanlis speaking at the Hellenic-French Forum in Paris unveiled plans of c.€13M infrastructure projects that are to be implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation. From these projects more than €10 billion have been tendered and almost €5 billion contracted

Especially in Greece, 125 public and private projects are currently underway, which exceed a total of 40 billion euros.

Mr. Karamanlis also referred to the program of the so-called new generation projects, which includes water supply, irrigation and land improvement projects, such as a series of dams being built throughout Greece, with resources from the Recovery Fund, modern integrated water softening systems and water supply pipelines, but also the upgrading of irrigation systems with the integration of modern technologies.

Also, in the important anti-flood interventions amounting to 1.5 billion euros, which shield our country against the consequences of the climate crisis.

Railway projects play a leading role in green infrastructure, as does the further development of the fixed-track media network, i.e. the Metro and the Tram, where one of the largest investment programs, amounting to 4.5 billion euros, is being implemented. The most important of these is the project of line 4 of the Athens Metro, in which French companies also participate, which has already started, as well as the extensions of the existing lines.

The minister pointed out that the development of the railway network on the one hand is fully in line with EU policies for transport with a zero carbon footprint, on the other hand it is at the heart of the Mitsotakis government's strategy to make Greece a hub for infrastructure, combined transport and by extension energy hub of Southeast Europe.

As for the strategically important port of Alexandroupoli, which bypasses the Bosphorus straits and can also be an energy hub, it is launched as a public project and has secured its financing from the European Funds by joining the Trans-European Transport Network.
