Aktor awarded contract for student dormitories at Democritus University of Thrace

The Aktor Group has been selected as the provisional contractor for the PPP project of student dormitories at Democritus University of Thrace, as it was the only entity to submit a bid for the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project for the "Student Dormitories, Educational/Research, and Other Infrastructure of Democritus University of Thrace."

The project, with a total budget of €107.3 million (excluding VAT), will be carried out in Komotini, Alexandroupolis, and Xanthi. It involves the construction of student dormitories and university housing in Alexandroupolis and Komotini, a library and event space in Komotini, and a research center in Xanthi.

In Alexandroupolis, the plan includes the construction of four student dormitory buildings, covering a total area of 12,194.34 m², with a capacity to accommodate 350 students. Additionally, a dining area of 3,776.75 m² will be built, with the capacity to serve 1,500 people. The project also includes the construction of 12 university housing units, each housing at least four people, with a total area of 1,440 m².

In Komotini, two student dormitory buildings will be constructed, with a total internal area of 9,667.36 m² and 3,551.8 m² of outdoor space, designed to accommodate 350 people. The project also includes a dining facility for 2,500 students, a guesthouse for 28 people, and 24 university housing units, divided into six blocks of four apartments each, totaling 2,880 m². Additionally, a central building will house a library, reading rooms, and spaces for various events, covering a total area of 17,000 m², with 6,000 m² of outdoor space.

In Xanthi, the project will establish a Center of Excellence, featuring a central building with laboratories and research facilities, spanning 10,000 m², along with 5,000 m² of outdoor space.

The project’s contract duration is set for 360 months, with the first three years dedicated to constructing the necessary infrastructure. Payments will be made by the University through availability payments during the operational phase.

Additionally, Aktor has been selected as the contractor (Private Partnership Entity) for the construction of 3,000 student dormitories at the University of Crete, located in Heraklion and Rethymno, under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement, valued at €242,618,400 (including VAT). Aktor is also responsible for the construction of student dormitories at the University of Thessaly, with a budget of €94 million (excluding VAT), to be located in Volos (utilizing the former cotton factory site in Nea Ionia, Volos) and Lamia.
