Business expectations in industrial sector up in December

In December 2022, the index of business expectations in industry was strengthened.

In particular the index reached at 100.4 points, from 95.5 points in November, a level, however, lower than last year's corresponding point (109.1 points).

According to the bulletin of developments in the industry published today by IOBE, there was a rise in industrial production by 1.1% in November compared to October, as well as a decline of 1.2% (y-o-y) in Greece, compared to an increase of 1.6% in EU27. There was also a rise for domestic manufacturing of 2.5% (y-o-y), a new increase in industrial exports, 29.8% in October (y-o-y), but also an increase in the trade deficit to 4.8 billion euros from 2.9 billion. euros a year ago.

In particular, in the third quarter of 2022 there was a strengthening of the industry turnover index of 36.4% (y-o-y) in Greece against 22.5% in the EU27 (constant prices). At current prices, total economic activity rose 42.8% in the third quarter of 2022 (y-o-y), following a rise of 24.9% a year earlier.

It is noted that in the third quarter of 2022 manufacturing showed the highest increase, 44.2% from 3.1% a year ago.
