Specifically, as stated in a relevant announcement, the Municipality of Paleon Phaliro informs owners, tenants, usufructuaries, lessees, or sub-lessees of plots of land and other uncovered spaces located in:
Areas within approved urban planning schemes, areas within settlement boundaries without an approved urban planning scheme, plots within a 100-meter radius from the boundaries of the aforementioned (a) and (b) areas, following notification from the competent forestry service, and land outside the urban planning scheme with a building, for areas not subject to the provisions of forest legislation, according to the local forest map and after notification by the relevant forestry service, that they are required to clean the aforementioned spaces during the period from April 1 to April 30 of each year and to maintain them throughout the fire protection season, i.e., from May 1 to October 31.
According to the municipality, those responsible must submit a responsible declaration regarding the fulfillment of their fire protection obligations for their properties to the National Registry for Preventive Fire Protection Measures of Properties by April 30 of each year.
The cleaning process includes:
- Logging and removal of dry and broken trees and branches, as well as branches in direct contact with a building.
- Removal of combustible plant material on the ground surface, such as litter, dry grasses, and fallen dry branches.
- Pruning of the lower branches of trees and increasing the height at which the canopy starts from the ground, depending on the age and species of the tree.
- Thinning of bushy vegetation to reduce ground coverage.
- Removal of any abandoned combustible, flammable, explosive, or inflammable materials, objects, and waste.
- Safe collection and transportation of all cleaning residues.
