Comprehensive upgrading of 426 School buildings in Greece

The €100 million funding for the project originates from a donation by the Hellenic Bank Association and covers interventions in 426 school units across 245 municipalities and all 13 regions of the country.

The €100 million contract for the renovation of 426 school buildings was signed at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

This project, with a total budget of €100 million funded by a donation from the Hellenic Bank Association, involves interventions across 426 school units in 245 municipalities and all 13 regions of the country.

Specifically, the distribution of the interventions is as follows:

  • Eastern Macedonia and Thrace: 28 schools
  • Attica: 102 schools
  • North Aegean: 10 schools
  • Western Greece: 31 schools
  • Western Macedonia: 12 schools
  • Epirus: 17 schools
  • Thessaly: 24 schools
  • Ionian Islands: 11 schools
  • Central Macedonia: 78 schools
  • Crete: 33 schools
  • South Aegean: 17 schools
  • Peloponnese: 34 schools
  • Central Greece: 29 schools

The interventions include, among others:

Renovation of sanitary facilities and creation of accessible restrooms for people with disabilities

Repair of accessibility ramps for people with disabilities

Interior and exterior painting

Improvements to schoolyards, including installation of basketball and volleyball courts, as well as playgrounds in kindergartens

The €100 million funding originates from a donation by the systemic banks.

The program’s design ensures the inclusion of at least one school unit per municipality, prioritizing:

Special education schools

Units located in remote, island, and border areas

Schools in regions affected by natural disasters

Work is scheduled to commence on June 15, with the objective that the majority of interventions will be completed by the start of the new school year in September, ensuring full operational readiness.
