In 2023, DIAS processed 406 million transactions with a total value of 450 billion euros, which is a 51.5% increase from 2020 when the value of transactions was 297 billion euros. On February 10th, 2023, a daily record was set with 5.2 million transactions.
The adoption of the RF/QR payment code was implemented by almost all (98%) of businesses interfacing with DIAS for their collections in December 2023, and the receipts of businesses and organizations increased to 37.6% (153 million) of all transactions handled in 2023, compared to 2020.
The number of direct credit transfers in 2023, which accounted for 43.4% of interbank transfers, increased by 109.4% compared to 2022 and amounted to 36.8 million transactions. Almost 1 in 2 interbank transfers were processed directly in 2023, which is a significant increase from 1 in 7 in 2020.
On December 27th, 2023, a daily record was set with 647 thousand direct credit transfers. It's worth noting that direct credit transfers constitute only 11% of all credit transfers because almost all receipts/payments of businesses and organizations are not made by direct credit.
In 2023, the IRIS interbank payments service, provided by the banks in collaboration with DIAS, was significantly strengthened to ensure even faster, easier and more secure transactions. IRIS products include direct money transfers between friends (IRIS P2P), business-to-business (IRIS P2B) and online store payments (IRIS eCommerce). In comparison to 2022, these services recorded strong transaction growth rates of 251%, 293% and 69% respectively.
Even more impressive is the evolution of these transactions in 2023 compared to the previous three-year data (2020), with an increase of 2540% (IRIS P2P), 1125% (IRIS P2B) and 373% (IRIS eCommerce). On 31/12/2023, IRIS P2P users reached a monthly record of 2.2 million, with 102 thousand new registrations in December 2023 alone. This is more than four times the size compared to 2020, with 70% of users belonging to the age group of 18-34 years.
On the same day, there were 155 thousand registered professionals using the IRIS P2B service, a size increased by 292.8% compared to 2022 and three times compared to 2020. The number of registered merchants/eshops in the IRIS eCommerce service reached 3.5 thousand in 2023, enhanced by 19 times compared to 2020. In her comments on the 2023 statistics, DIAS SA CEO Stavroula Kambouridou stated: "We are excited to witness another year of substantial growth, closing a successful 3-year period, having exceeded all the goals we had set, setting new benchmarks for DIAS in its 34 years of operation.
