As the competent minister, Takis Theodorikakos, stated following his meeting with the U.S. Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, the proposed regulation will allow the company to expand its activities beyond shipbuilding into commercial, transit, port, energy, and defense operations, thereby strengthening the port’s role as a multifunctional hub.
Mr. Theodorikakos thanked the U.S. Ambassador for her contribution to the recent energy agreements, which — as he noted — enhance Greece’s position as a hub of energy security in Europe. The discussion also addressed issues related to trade, the supply chain, industry, defense investments, as well as cooperation in research and innovation.
The minister emphasized that further strengthening Greek–American cooperation contributes to the productive transformation of the economy, creating new investments, infrastructure, and jobs.
He underlined that the discussion focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the fields of:
- investment and trade,
- the supply chain,
- industry and the shipbuilding sector,
- defense investments,
- research and innovation.
As he noted, the legislative initiative undertaken by the ministry will enable ONEX to expand its operations beyond the shipbuilding industry into the commercial, transit, port, energy, and defense sectors.
