Following an inspection of the works, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas, stated: "Currently, more than 410 workers are engaged, and the works are progressing at a very high pace. Our goal is to complete the remaining 10 kilometers by St. Andrew's Day and open the entire stretch to traffic, ensuring a safe and comfortable highway connecting Elefsina, Corinth, Patras, and Pyrgos. We are optimistic that, weather permitting, we will achieve this goal and deliver the full highway by November 30. We kindly ask for the understanding of the residents of Patras, who are experiencing some inconvenience due to the traffic detour."
The General Secretary of Infrastructure, Dimitris Anagnostopoulos, added: "Today's inspection of the final 10 kilometers of the road was crucial, as we observed the intensification of work in a complex section with significant technical requirements, particularly given that utility networks pass through the area. The works are proceeding smoothly, and we expect them to be completed on schedule, ensuring a seamless connection between Pyrgos, Patras, Corinth, and Athens."
The CEO of Olympia Odos S.A., Dimitris Papanikolas, remarked: "Today's site visit, attended by the Minister, underscores the importance of the project, despite its relatively short length. This section of the highway is unique due to the area's topography, which requires the construction of several technical works such as retaining walls, overpasses, underpasses, and culverts. These are time-consuming tasks that require specialized personnel.
The temporary traffic diversion on the Old National Road has understandably caused some inconvenience to residents and drivers. However, we ask for their patience, as this is a short-term measure. In approximately a month and a half, upon completion of the 10 kilometers between Mitylogi and Alissos, the road safety and daily life of all will dramatically improve."
