After several years of persistent efforts, the Nafplio waterway has finally received environmental licensing, with the infrastructure approval granted following a meeting of the Central Archaeological Council (KAS). This marks a significant milestone in the project’s progress, bringing the region closer to realizing its plans for a modern waterway network that will enhance tourism and the local economy.

According to a recent announcement, this decision represents a significant step towards enhancing the transportation infrastructure of Argolida. It brings the region closer to establishing a network of waterways that will elevate both tourism and the local economy.

The next crucial phase involves the Decentralized Administration of Peloponnese, which must provide the final approval for the full licensing of the project. This will allow the infrastructure to progress to the next stage and enable the commencement of construction works.

Hellenic Seaplanes, a leader in the development of Greece’s waterway network, is fully prepared to advance to this next stage and introduce seaplanes to the port of Nafplio for the first time.

Strong Support from Local Government

The Mayor of Nafplio, Mr. Dimitris Orfanos, expressed his enthusiasm: “The approval for the Nafplio aerodrome is a pivotal development for our city and the broader Argolida region. This project represents not just modern transport infrastructure but a strategic investment that will reshape the future of our region’s growth. The aerodrome will place us on the seaplane map, attracting high-end tourism and creating new employment opportunities for local businesses and professionals. Nafplio, with its rich history and unparalleled beauty, must continue to progress by embracing innovative solutions, such as the aerodrome. Our commitment is to ensure the swift completion of this project for the benefit of our society and economy.”

The Regional Governor of Peloponnese, Mr. Dimitris Ptochos, also voiced strong support: “The Nafplio waterway is an integral part of our broader strategy to create a robust network of waterways across the Peloponnese. The region fully supports this initiative, as it will stimulate immediate development, generate new jobs, and enhance our connectivity with other tourist destinations. Nafplio and Argolida are now firmly positioned on the map of seaplanes and modern transportation.”

The completion of the waterway is expected to create new opportunities for the region, offering fast, direct connections via seaplane, while also strengthening Argolida’s image as a premier tourist destination.
