Fraport Greece has announced scheduled runway closures at eight regional airports due to the scale and complexity of ongoing upgrade works. The timing of these closures has been carefully planned to minimize operational disruption. Regulatory compliance and safety at all levels remain the company’s foremost priorities.
These works are part of a broader initiative aimed at further enhancing the already high standards of safety and operational efficiency at the airports managed by Fraport Greece. The project is funded through the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
The affected airports and their respective runway closure periods are as follows:
-
Zakynthos (ZTH): February 2 – February 16, 2026
-
Kefalonia (EFL): November 17 – December 1, 2025

(*) All times are local.
(**) Excluded dates: December 23, 24, 31, 2025 and January 6, 7, 2026.
During these periods, urgent flights — including medical evacuations, search and rescue, firefighting, humanitarian, governmental, and other national interest flights — will be accommodated by helicopters. All other airport services will remain fully operational.
The scope of the works includes extensive interventions to reshape runway safety areas (Runway Strips) and runway end safety areas (RESA), aimed at maintaining and further improving the already high level of runway safety.
