According to data from RIGINOS Yachts, a company with extensive experience in the yachting industry, Greece continues to maintain its leadership position in the global market, reaching 26% of total yacht charters, a figure consistent with that of 2023. Following Greece, France holds an 18% market share, Italy 14%, and Croatia 13%.
Unwavering Dominance of the Eastern Mediterranean:
The distribution of yacht bookings across various destinations remained stable in 2024 compared to 2023. The Eastern Mediterranean retained its position as the most popular yachting destination worldwide. Specifically, it accounted for 45% of all yacht bookings throughout the year—both winter and summer seasons—and 51% of bookings during the summer season, reflecting the same market share as in 2023. Notably, Greece emerged as the No.1 destination in the Eastern Mediterranean, accounting for 30% of all summer yacht bookings. Demand for Greece increased significantly, rising by 8% in the total number of yachts chartered compared to 2023, with over 500 yachts chosen for charter.
Dominance of Greece and France in 2024:
After a particularly strong summer season in 2023, the summer period of 2024 saw a slight slowdown in booking activity compared to previous years. Specifically, bookings for the months from May to October 2024 were at 87% of the bookings in 2023, suggesting a return to stable, pre-pandemic levels. However, Greece and France maintained their leadership positions, remaining the top preferences for yacht charterers and accounting for over 50% of the total summer bookings for 2024.
Greece at the Forefront:
Pre-bookings for the summer of 2025 already show significant growth, with continued focus on the Eastern Mediterranean region. According to data from RIGINOS Yachts, Greece is further strengthening its dominant position in the global luxury yacht charter market for 2025, accounting for 40% of all bookings for the summer season. This figure represents a significant increase from the 30% share in the previous year, confirming the steadily growing international demand for Greek destinations. The Eastern Mediterranean, with Greece (40%), Croatia (22%), and Turkey (7%), remains the hub of marine tourism, maintaining its global leadership with 69% of bookings for 2025.
Konstantinos Angelopoulos, Charter Consultant at RIGINOS Yachts, stated: "Despite the general slowdown of the global market in 2024, Greece maintained its top position as the No.1 destination for luxury yacht charters, accounting for 30% of summer bookings. At the same time, we are seeing increased preference for Greece as a destination for the summer season of 2025. These figures clearly show that Greece continues to be the top choice for our clients worldwide, further strengthening its position on the global yachting map."
Greece’s Continual Strength as a Leading Marine Tourism Destination:
The continuous strengthening of Greece as a top marine holiday destination reaffirms its global appeal. The combination of unparalleled beauty, high-quality services, and a vast fleet of luxury yachts makes Greece an indisputable leader in the global yachting market. The ongoing trust from RIGINOS Yachts' clients, both from Greece and abroad, serves as the strongest proof of the enduring superiority of Greek marine tourism and the company’s commitment to providing unique travel experiences.
