Greek retail sales up by 4.6% in February 2025

Sales declined in only two retail sub-sectors.

Retail sales volume in Greece increased by 4.6% in February 2025, as only two out of the key retail sectors recorded a decline in sales.

Specifically, turnover increased in the following retail categories: Books, Stationery & Miscellaneous Items (+10%), Automotive Fuels & Lubricants (+6.6%), Large Food Stores (+6.5%), Pharmaceuticals & Cosmetics (+6.4%), Food, Beverages & Tobacco (+5.7%), and Furniture, Electrical Appliances & Home Equipment (+4.9%). In contrast, declines were recorded in Department Stores (–6.2%) and Clothing & Footwear (–5.4%).

According to ELSTAT, the overall volume index (turnover at constant prices) rose by 4.6% in February 2025 compared to February 2024, and by 6.2% compared to January 2025. The seasonally adjusted volume index increased by 1.6% in February 2025 versus January 2025.

Similarly, the general turnover index (at current prices) grew by 5.2% in February 2025 compared to February 2024, and by 5.7% relative to January 2025. The seasonally adjusted turnover index registered a 1.9% increase in February 2025 over the previous month.
