Greek retail turnover in July up 12.3%

According to ELSTAT, for the enterprises in retail trade divisions the turnover in July 2023 amounted to 3.94 billion euro.

The activity of retailers increased in July according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

According to ELSTAT, for the enterprises in retail trade divisions obliged to double-entry accounting bookkeeping, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in July 2023 amounted to 3.94 billion euro, recording an increase of 12.3% in comparison with July 2022, when the respective turnover was 3.51 billion euro and an increase of 5.5% in comparison with June 2023, when the respective turnover was 3.74 billion euro.

The activities that recorded the biggest increase in turnover in July 2023 compared with July 2022 are:

  • Retail sale of tobacco products in specialized stores, increase 47.7%.
  • Retail sale of audio and video equipment in specialized stores, increase 45.4%. 

The activities that recorded a decrease in turnover in July 2023 compared with July 2022 are:

  • Retail sale of automotive fuel in specialized stores, decrease 11.5%. 
  • Retail sale of watches and jewellery in specialised stores, decrease 0.4% 

The Regions that recorded the biggest increase in turnover in July 2023 compared with July 2022 are:

  • Region of Kentriki Makedonia, increase 12.7%.
  • Region of Attiki, increase 12.6%. 

For the small and medium sized enterprises in retail trade divisions obliged to double-entry accounting bookkeeping, for which data are available on monthly basis, the turnover in July 2023 amounted to 1.37 billion euro, recording an increase of 8.5% in comparison with July 2022, when the respective turnover was 1.26 billion euro.
